“Alright already, that’s enough everyone,” a young Selki woman said.
She emerged from the crowd and stood before the Abellan.
She had long, untamed blonde hair that reached down to her lower back and annoyed, but large blue eyes. Like many of her companions, she wore a cloth tied around her waist stitched together at her right hip by a thin black fibre. It was crimson with a yellow geometric pattern upon it along with a matching strapless bra top. Once more, alike to the other Selki she wore shoes and gloves in the shape of an animal’s paws, giving them an awfully large shape. They were white with a puffy fur trim and large black claws on both hands and feet. Upon her head was a massive blue walrus skin bigger than she was with two tusks protruding upward from its mouth. Its flippers reached down past her waist and its tail dragged on the ground behind her. In her hands, she carried a wooden spear bigger than she was, the tip of the head stone and sharpened to a fine point.
“If I didn’t sense your presence myself I’d say you were just some wannabe claiming to be the Calamity Trigger...but you’re the real thing, aren’t you?”
At her approach, TJ nodded.
“I am. You’re...not the Confidant for the Selki, but you’re their leader?”
She shook her head.
“I’m the Chieftain’s daughter, Misty. My father, Jared, is our Chieftain, Confidant and a friend of Queen Remedi’s, while you could say I’m a friend of her daughter’s. It’d be unwise to have him approach you when we don’t know your intentions, let alone whether you’re telling the whole truth.”
TJ blinked at the revelation.
The Selki had become Confidants even before Peorth’s time. That would explain why they showed hospitality to those escaping from Halcyon.
“That’s...fair. Then lemme’ cut to the chase. My friends here and I—Machina, my maid and Suuba, God’s Governor of Earth—were looking to go to Xenym. The thing is, we don’t know the way there and we were hoping the Confidant among your ranks could give us directions.
At his explanation, Misty squinted suspiciously.
“God’s Governor? That girl?”
Su took notice of her stare and glared back.
“Take a picture, it’ll last longer,” she barked.
In spite of the provocation, the Selki simply scratched her cheek.
“It never ceases to amaze me how fast Humans and Asgardians grow. The last time I saw her she was still in her mother.”
It was hard to imagine, but Su was a baby once too. He couldn’t help but wonder what Su’s mother was like, since she herself didn’t know but perhaps Misty had an idea. Though now wasn’t the time to ask that.
“So if you’re a friend of Ch-...Peorth, that means you’ve met her, huh? To be honest, we are too. After all, she’s my...my...Pleasure.” He rubbed the back of his neck at the prospect. “A part of the reason we’re here is to find out what happened to Xenym. It’s a part of...well, a long quest to face God’s Governor Terramane.”
During the explanation she scratched her head, looking puzzled.
“I...see...? I don’t really get all of that. But Dad used to say that when Queen Remedi came by she’d talk about you. You look a lot like what she described so...you must be the kid she was talking about.”
“I’m not a kid, though. I’m the Abellan.”
She grinned slightly.
“That energy of yours speaks for itself. That, and your uncanny ability to use Agasuric and Asgardian abilities...first I’ve seen of it. It’s still kinda weird that you look like that but...you’re Agasuric too, huh? More or less immortal like we are. Might explain why you’re stuck in a kid’s body. But you’re still ridiculously strong...”
She paused, sighed and looked to her compatriots.
“I can’t say I’m entirely on board with this, but from what I’ve seen and heard, you don’t seem like you’re here to...well, drag us back into that war. So I won’t say I trust you, but I’ll leave the final decision to Dad. If he thinks you’re worth the risk, we’ll help you out.
“That and some of our guys took a serious beating. I wanna get them treated, fast.”
“Treatment? I can do that.”
She was taken aback somewhat at this statement, both in look and action.
“W-would you?”
The Abellan picked up his guitar and smiled sheepishly.
“Despite me tossing this into the snow, it’s not just an accessory.”
“Huh...”
She looked to her wary kinsmen and frowned.
“The Abellan’s gonna heal you guys, so stop looking at him like that already. Come on, gather around.”
She suddenly glared.
“Don’t click your tongue at me, Elga! You guys started it and you got what you deserved for it! I told you it was a stupid idea!”
With some reluctance, the wounded Selki gathered around as the Bard began to strum out a song. Enveloped by the aurora lights and the sound of his melodies, the prior tensions between them melted away.
“Since that’s all cleared up, I’ll bring Dad over. I’ll explain the situation to save you the trouble, so just focus on getting these guys patched up. If any of them give you trouble, tell me. I’ll deal with them.”
She looked to Machina who stood serenely as the wounded Selki walked around her with wary glances.
“Better I beat them up than that maid of yours. Must have strength on par with an Agasura to send grown men flying like that.”
“She’s a bit of an oddball, but she’s really sweet when you get to know her.”
“If you say so. Just remind me not to get on her bad side.”
At the prospect, TJ smiled.
“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure she behaves too.”
TJ gently strummed his guitar and all of the wounded Selki gradually began to recover from the previous battle. In spite of this, however, many of the Selki warriors still seemed reluctant to let their guard down around him. The only person who seemed even remotely relaxed in his presence, save the android, was Su. She stood amidst the other Selki with a slight grin on her face.
“Colour me impressed, Candy Ass. Didn’t think you had it in you to put your foot down,” she snickered.
“I can do it, but it doesn’t mean I enjoy doing it.” He replied, looking down through half-lidded eyes.
“Did you have the guts to actually kill someone? You can tell me. I can keep a secret.”
He and a variety of other Selki sent her exasperated glances.
“Wouldn’t be a very good secret if I gave you an answer here and now.”
At his reply, she laughed.
“Oh come on! These guys knew exactly what they were getting into when they challenged you. You think Asmodeus or his cronies would think twice about it? You’ve gotta have balls like that if you wanna make it outta this alive.”
Maybe she was right, but he hated to think about it. It wouldn’t be the first time he took a life willingly and there were at least three more he would need to in the near future. However, he didn’t want that to become commonplace. Better a last resort than a first. Even so, even if on a whim that declaration he had made just a short while ago made it clear it was an option.
“I know. But I believe that it isn’t the only way. This fight could’ve gone very differently if we wanted it to.”
She crossed her arms and raised a brow.
“Would’ve been more fun that way.”
“...She’s not serious, right?” A Selki swordsman asked.
A spearman nearby gave him a dirty look and he raised his hands in surrender.
“Regardless of the way Asmodeus does things, I do things differently. I don’t need his methods, nor this Dominion to gain allies.”
The crowd parted as Jared approached with Misty in tow.
“If I had any doubts that you were the Abellan, that display of power and prowess put them to rest.” He said as he approached and took a sweeping bow. “My name is Jared, Selki Chieftain and Confidant to the late Queen Remedi Ásvaŕtlim.”
He looked over his soldiers and lowered his head apologetically.
“I must beg your forgiveness for the transgressions my kinsmen have committed. Due to having cut ties with the Agasura and rebuffing Lord Asmodeus’ Dominion, we are more often than not, targets of the Agasura. To this end, we often have scouts patrolling the outer perimeter of our home in case of hostiles. Raids from Agasura have been much more frequent lately, and with much greater ferocity.”
“No hard feelings, Jared, and it’s a pleasure to meet you. Abellan, Calamity Trigger, those titles don’t mean too much here. I’d be glad if you just called me TJ.” The Bard said with an affable smile. “But I haven’t seen too many cases where the Agasura turn against their own...can you tell us more about that?”
“Gladly. Alas, this is no place for those not of the Tundra to remain. Let us return to Eferet, our home, where we may show you proper hospitality.”
“That would be great. I think my fingers are gonna fall off if we stay out here.”
With some of the healthy Selki warriors leading the troop, TJ, his companions and Jared walked in the midst of them. Those who were wounded were assisted by those still able, and they carefully headed towards Eferet.
“It was much more recently, but Agasura that are not native to these lands have recently begun to intrude upon our territory. Those of the Snowfields at times have wandered into the tundra, and as you can imagine, my kinsmen needed to dispatch them,” Jared explained.
“I’ve heard there are some cases where Agasura leave their region, but they usually need a high ranking Agasura to do it, right? Like a Goblin King or something,” TJ posited.
“That is indeed the case, yes. However, there are some exceptions. Those that are Instance Dungeon-bound may break free of their shackles and escape their prisons, should Lord Asmodeus’ influence prove strong enough in the region they preside. Mind you, this is simply speculation. However, the effects of the Dominion are undeniable, as the strength of those under it has multiplied substantially. That aside, many of the raids led on our home and people are often done by Agasura from this region’s Instance Dungeon.”
“The Frozen Labyrinth...we’ve encountered a few Agasura from there ourselves. I dunno much about their abilities, but they were definitely strong.”
“Indeed they are. As you can imagine, having snubbed that same strength, fighting against them on even footing is no small feat. Given the frequency of their raids, many of my kinsmen have become wary of Agasuric presences approaching from outside of the surrounding area. Your presence alone was one that was overwhelming enough to have all on guard and ready to lay down their lives against.”
He grit his teeth and shut his eyes tightly at the suggestion.
If only I could mask my powers better! He thought.
“Sorry...I didn’t mean to alarm you guys.”
“The fault does not lay with you, TJ. Perhaps if I successfully dissuaded my kinsmen from challenging you, this outcome could’ve been avoided. Alas, I will count my blessings that you had mercy on them.”
His eyes shuttered as he took in those words.
Once upon a time, he was powerless. With no memories and no spells, only a guitar and a strange gem to his name. However, now he was becoming the Agasura King and embracing all that came with it. The power, the stigma and the quest to defeat his predecessor.
“I’ll fight for a world where you don’t have to fight, nor live in fear of others.” He told the Chieftain, his brows furrowed and mouth taut.
At those words, Jared smiled.
“It is a lofty goal, but one I believe none are more suited to than you are. To have joined hands with Queen Peorth, I am certain that you will someday bring about a lasting peace.”
The Bard’s demeanour brightened as his lips curled into a grin.
“I’ll do my best!”
TJ couldn’t help but wonder about Queen Remedi. He didn’t know many people who knew her and he didn’t want to ask Peorth about such a delicate matter. Perhaps Jared could share his knowledge? Doubly so if she knew TJ prior to him leaving the gate.
“Jared, you mentioned you were Queen Remedi’s Confidant, right? I have some memories of...well, a long time ago, but I don’t really know about her. I mean, I think we met! But it might’ve been only after she was gone...”
Jared shook his head and his golden locks gently swayed.
“I cannot deny the veracity of that statement, but she knew you both in life and in death, I imagine. The place that housed you, very few have access to, but the royal family is one of the few granted such a privilege. It was there that she met you, and there that she believed one of her lineage would set fate in motion. She herself could not, but to the surprise of all, her daughter had.”
TJ looked startled at the revelation.
“Wait you’re telling me this whole thing was chance?!”
He nodded sagely.
“Correct. I know not what circumstances led to you leaving the gate, but in so doing the landscape of Midgard has changed accordingly. Perhaps Remedi knew this fact and chose not to act upon it. Perhaps she had tried but to no avail. Alas, you have become a friend of Peorth’s as we have a friend of her parent.”
He wanted to ask about her, to learn more about the queen’s beloved parent, yet something in him hesitated. Though he did learn more about her through his memories of the past, he felt it would be best to hear it from Peorth first. Through that memory, it came clear to him how much she loved her mother and what she meant to her. Jared would likely have a clear objective view of the queen and what she was like, but he didn’t have a love for her like Peorth did. He didn’t know the sides of her that she did either.
“She mentioned some stuff about me, right? Do you remember any of it?”
The Bard had a hopeful twinkle in his eye and at the sight, a bead of sweat ran down the Selki’s neck.
“...I do.”
“You do?!”
He exhaled, closed his eyes and looked to the Bard.
“Indeed. During one of her visits, Queen Remedi told me that she met you after following one of the Roarke Clan members on their rite. About you she said, and I quote, ‘he’s an adorable little expressionless jellybean that I could just eat right up’.”
The Abellan was flabbergasted, Misty scratched her cheek while Su looked exasperated.
“...Was she an idiot?” She asked.
“Many and more will tell you of Remedi’s at times, whimsical nature. However, it was due to those whims that I stand before you and speak to you today. Though it may not look it, she and I crossed swords once upon a time. It was upon my defeat that she had sought to recruit our kind to her cause.”
“So she wasn’t just dumb, she was also strong? In other words, another meathead. It really runs in the Blue Blood’s family, doesn’t it?”
“I wouldn’t say that aptly describes her, really. I cannot deny that her martial abilities were formidable, but her magical aptitude was otherworldly.”
The Abellan raised a brow at the prospect.
“She was God’s Governor of Water then, huh? Considering how strong Freya is, it doesn’t surprise me that she’d have the best teacher,” he remarked.
She had taught him some incredible abilities also, but without Kooh he couldn’t perform them. Perhaps there were other spells she imparted upon him he’d remember with time.
“Is?”
“W-was, I mean!”
It’d be hard to explain the current status of Freya. TJ wasn’t quite the person to do it either, since he hardly understood exactly how Freya continued to exist. Neither he, nor she likely could, but Peorth and Kooh seemed to come to terms with it in some way shape or form.
“Talk about a slapdash salvage,” Su remarked.
“Ah, yes of course. It seems your ties with the Asgardians runs much deeper than one might think at a glance, TJ. That knowledge heartens me. You do not seem the type to dabble in duplicity, so my kinsmen should have little else to fear.”
“I dunno what that means, but if we can get along, I couldn’t ask for more.”
Jared grinned slightly at him.
“Your earnestness is not lost on me.”
After walking for a period, the group began to approach a village surrounded by tall walls formed of ice. Though one could not see it from the outside, they were ramparts that served as a location for archers to take aim from at approaching enemies. Two selki spearmen stood guard at what seemed to be the gates to Eferet. At the sight of the approaching vanguard, they both lifted their spears and slammed them into the snow. Immediately following the action, the gates creaked open and a temporary cold wind blew through and into the world before them. From a distance, the party got their first glimpse of the village. The entirety of Eferet weas made of ice, from the fountains to the statue that sat in the square.
“This is our village, our home. We do not have much, but I will see to it that my kinsmen offer you the best hospitality possible. It is the least we could do after having assaulted your group.” Jared explained as he held his hand out to the village.
“No hard feelings, Jared. I’m just glad it didn’t turn out too bad. Everyone’s still alive so...it could be worse, right?” TJ asked, smiling sheepishly.
“It is a blessing indeed. In having seen what you and your party are capable of, however, it has given me much to ruminate on. I hope that you’ll join me over a meal. There is much and more I would like to discuss with you, as I imagine it will pertain to your journey.”
“You know something about Xenym? This better be good.” Su said, eyeing him suspiciously.
“I am aware of its status, yes. But this is neither the time nor the place to discuss it.”
The militia passed through the gates and at the sight of their chieftain, the two guards saluted before turning to face the other approaching Selki.
As the party stepped into the village, they could better see what it contained. Though it was no stronghold by any stretch of the imagination, it seemed rather battle-ready. The ramparts had bows and arrows placed at strategic locations and several ways to ascend it. Resting upon some of the houses were spare spears and other weapons, some made of ice while others stone and wood. Many of the buildings seemed to be houses, but some seemed to have signs advertising them as shops or restaurants. Among them there was a large house that stood out amid the rest that Jared led them to. As the members of the militia disbanded towards their homes and perhaps, what might have been an infirmary, the chieftain turned to a couple of the members.
“Flynn, if you would procure amenities for our guests. Dona, please have your team prepare a meal.”
At his words, a young(?) Selki man and woman nodded affirmatively and went on their way.
“Please, accompany to my home. I would like to speak with all of you more there.”
With a nod, TJ followed suit, accompanied by his party and Misty.
They entered Jared’s home and made their way through the hallways while Misty shut the door behind them. In spite of everything being made of ice, for all intents and purposes it looked like an average home. Tables and chairs could be found scattered about. Vases with actual flowers could be found upon some tables. Though there weren’t any pictures, there were a variety of fabrics in myriad colours hanging upon the walls. Jared opened a pair of double doors and invited the group inside, and they found themselves in what seemed to be a dining room. Familiar sights could be found here also, but it was decorated with things like trophies from previous battles. Horns, tusks and other things. There were some sculptures in the shape of fish and other sea creatures that lined the walls, safely out of the way of passerby. The table had a series of chairs that allowed many to sit all around its rectangular shape, and as they expected, Jared sat at the head of it.
TJ’s party sat at one side together while Misty took the other. Once they were all seated, the God’s Governor crossed her arms.
“So? Let’s cut to the chase already. You know something and we wanna know what it is,” she said.
The younger Selki furrowed her brows at the Wizard’s statement.
“We might’ve wronged you earlier, but don’t think I’ll tolerate you giving my father attitude,” she snarled.
“Misty, I understand your feelings but I must ask that you not be rude to our guests.” He said as he raised a hand.
She sighed and placed a fist to her chin, averting her gaze.
“As you wished, I shall pass over the details and tell you what it is that currently concerns me. To that end, tell me, TJ and company: are you familiar with the Agasura Vintor?”
“Never heard of it,” Su answered.
He closed his eyes.
“I see. That is quite concerning indeed. Vintor is the Guardian of this region’s Instance Dungeon, the Frozen Labyrinth. Some of the children have reported seeing an apparition that fits its description amid the ruins of Xenym. However, instead of taking the form of ice as many and more are most familiar with, it takes on the form of sand.”
The God’s Governor’s gaze sharpened at the suggestion.
“...What?”
“My daughter among them had reported such a sight to me also. It was for that reason I forbade my kinsmen from approaching the ruins. Though defeating Vintor has been a rite of passage for our kind, I do not believe this incarnation of it is anything like what we’ve encountered thus far. I know not what would happen if they were to challenge it, let alone fall to it. Nor would I wish to risk such a thing.”
“So you lot know what Vintor is, don’t you? Go on and spill the beans then.”
She looked to Misty and the Selki stared back at her.
“I’ve seen Vintor before but I’ve never seen that one. If you want details, ask Choky,” she replied.
She lowered her fist from her cheek and placed two fingers to her mouth and whistled.
After a few moments, the pitter-patter of paws sounded through the halls and a young Selki burst into the room, looking around for her sister.
“Misty, Dad, you’re back!” Choky said, beaming.
She glimpsed the trio at the table gazing at her and waved.
“You guys brought some new friends too! I’m Choky. Who are you guys?”
“It was a rough introduction, but this is my youngest daughter, Choky.” Jared said as he held out a hand to her. “Why don’t you have a seat at the table, Choky? These adventurers would like to hear about what you and your friends had seen at the Xenym Ruins. That is, after they introduce themselves.”
As Choky took a seat TJ looked to his companions before placing his hand to his chest.
“Guess I’ll go first then? I’m TJ, the Abellan. It’s nice to meet you, Choky,” he said.
She was a few inches shorter than he was, and he noted she didn’t wear paws on her hand like her father and sister did. Whether they were a part of them or an accessory he didn’t know, but it certainly was interesting. The claws would make for a good weapon if they were unarmed.
“You seem really strong, TJ! Nice to meet you!” She said, grinning.
He couldn’t help but think she was a good kid. But if even she could tell at a glance, he definitely needed to work on masking his power better.
“Suuba, God’s Governor of Earth.” Su said, crossing her arms.
“I’ve heard a lot about you!”
“You’re not the first.”
Machina bowed her head, her eyes closed.
“I am E.N.G.I. 0468-‘Machina’. You may refer to me as Machina.”
“She talks like Queen Peorth, doesn’t she, Dad?” Choky asked.
“You could say that, yes,” he replied. “But let us not take too much of their time, Choky. If you would-
Before he could make the request, the sound of footsteps in the hallway drew his attention. A knock on the dining room followed suit and he invited the guests in.
A group of Selki carrying plates of foods, utensils and other items entered before placing the spread across the table. A couple more followed them carrying garb similar to that which they wore along with the accessories and blankets. When they had laid out all the plates and utensils before the paty, they bowed and left with Jared’s gratitude.
TJ looked to the spread of food and found himself surprised at how much they had prepared, and with such painstaking care. There was a seafood paella, stew, potato salad, a bread basket, mixed salad and a few other items he didn’t recognize, with more than enough for everyone.
Su’s eyes wandered to the clothes sitting at the edge of the table before returning to Jared.
“You don’t actually expect us to wear that, do you?” She asked.
He shook his head.
“No, I do not. I cannot imagine that you and yours are resistant to the cold as we Selki are, so feel free to use the blankets to warm yourselves,” he suggested. “Nonetheless, for the time being please, help yourselves to the food before you. We shall continue our discussion once everyone has had a chance to be served.”
Each member at the table took an opportunity to grab food, blankets and drinks before taking their seats once more. When they were all settled in and enjoying their meal, the Chieftain turned to his youngest daughter again.
“Choky, I’d like for you to tell our guests about what you saw at the Xenym Ruins. Do so with as much detail as you possibly can.”
With a mouthful of paella, she chewed quietly and nodded.
“A little while ago, my friends and I were playing in the tundra and we went exploring near the Xenym Ruins,” she began. “At first we thought it was just a big mound of sand so Alba tried climbing it, but then it started roaring! All of a sudden it went bwoosh! And a giant monster popped out of it! It had this face like gwarar and a big, scary looking sword and it started roaring at us and blowing sand everywhere! So we got scared and ran home. It was big too! Bigger than our house!” She explained, gesturing wildly with her hands.
“...Does that description fit this Vintor of yours at all?” Su asked, looking exasperated.
“It isn’t the ideal description, but there are many and more aspects that align quite nicely with what we’re familiar with.” Jared replied as he placed his fork down.
“So it’s giant, huh? Well that ain’t gonna stop me from putting it back in the ground. We’ve dealt with huge ass Agasura and robots before, so this’ll be business as usual. Once we’re done here, just point us in a direction and we’ll go deal with it.”
Jared knit his brows slightly.
“Loathe am I to deny your enthusiasm, it would be reckless to attempt to traverse the Tundra in the dead of night. Please, stay the night and set out in the morning. Proper rest and care for your body will be excellent companions on your journey. The heart of the Tundra is not something to be underestimated.”
“I am in agreement with Chieftain Jared’s assessment. Rest and recuperation are critical to my master’s well-being,” Machina added.
“Ugh fine, whatever, you babies.” The God’s Governor replied, rolling her eyes.
“Returning to your suggestion, Suuba, there is something I would like to ask of you. Rather, it would be of you, TJ.”
“Hm? Of me?” He asked, looking nonplussed.
The elder Selki nodded.
“It pertains to my kin. It is something I mentioned to Queen Peorth, but I being the sole Confidant among our kind, I may be the only one impervious to Lord Asmodeus’ Dominion. I did not wish to say it earlier before them, but I suspect the reason that many and more were so intent on fighting you was due to it. Though their words suggest other wise, violence was not always the first option they would select when unfamiliar parties approached our homeland.”
He sighed and closed his eyes.
“In other words, I feel that as time progresses, my kinsmen become more and more susceptible to Lord Asmodeus’ influence. I have communicated with the members of Club Abio, I believe it was? I had recently caught word that one of their members, Naomi, had joined you on an expedition. Going so far as to letting herself fall under the effect of your Dominion.”
The Abellan swallowed the statement hard.
“Y-you could say that...”
He nodded solemnly.
“It is about that, that I wish to speak to you on. Just as you choose to oppose Lord Asmodeus, I believe that your Dominion has the power to oppose His own. To that end, I believe if my kinsmen were to accept yours in place of his, the gradual sway he has been placing on them will be diminished, if not outright eliminated, freeing them from his grasp.”
Lucia seemed fine with it, but even now TJ wasn’t sure what that pertained to. He had a Dominion of his own apparently, and the Agasura like Naomi could draw strength from him by sucking his blood, but what else did it do? On the other hand, he knew what it was like to be controlled, be it by Asmodeus or others. If he truly intended to oppose him, perhaps this was a needed step.
“Are you sure you want to risk that, though? Even I’m not sure what effect my Dominion has and the other Selki might not be in agreement with that decision.”
“I am certain there will be some dissent among my kinsmen. However, I am aware of the danger as many of them are. To that end, some have been forbidden from doing battle to prevent their bloodlust from turning them. Even during your approach, those that were susceptible needed to stay behind.
“Now, of course I am aware that we would need to earn their trust in order to prove that you intend to do what you said you would. Though they may trust Queen Peorth to some degree, you are still as of yet to have earned the same. I suspect in defeating Vintor, that may change, so consider this a request from me.”
At that moment, something in the Abellan’s brain clicked and he eyed the Selki with a keen curiosity.
“Well that’s fine and all, we can do that for you, since we’re headed that way anyway. But I’m wondering if you could do something for us.”
“It is quite a bit that we tasked you with. What would you have of me?”
“Got any treasure?”
At those words, only Su among them looked suspiciously at the Bard.
“Treasure...you say? In truth, my kinsmen have little need for such things. Currency and such that the Humans use, we have no need for in our village. Baubles and such are very rare also, since we rely on our own strength and weapons of our own make...”
He paused as he rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
“But perhaps we do have one. There is an artifact Queen Remedi had made for my late wife some time ago. It is a skin similar to that which we wear. Those who wear it can take on the appearance and if they so desire, the form of a walrus as we do. For those who wish to swim to the depths of the ocean, such an item would be very valuable. As we all are Selki by blood, we have no need for it, so if that will suffice, I shall see it to you.”
At the explanation, he simply blinked.
That item definitely, definitely, has too much sentimental value!
“M-maybe not that. I mean, I don’t need it that badly. I don’t like the water anyway.”
The last thing he wanted was to go to the bottom of the sea again. There was nothing down there he could want. All that waited were untold horrors of the depths...and plant-like sea creatures.
“Is that so? If not, I shall not press the matter, but if you should change your mind do not hesitate to let me know. But let us return to the matter at hand. Artifact aside, I do believe there is something I can do for you.”
“There is? Like what?”
He raised a brow at the prospect.
“I would like to join you on your journey to Xenym. Though it may not seem like it, I am still a very capable combatant.”
“Huh?!” Misty asked, her head darting toward her father.
“Y-you want to go too?!” TJ cried, looking just as startled.
“Allow me to explain, you two.” He suggested, calmly raising a hand. “As we discussed before, I want our kinsmen to consider uniting under your dominion. It seems a foolish thing to do, considering our aversion to fighting in this war.”
“I’m in agreement there, Dad. Why willingly subject ourselves to another Agasura King? It sounds like it’s just more of the same with a different flavour from the current one,” Misty remarked.
“Might as well just make the rest of your lot Confidants and not go through the hassle, then,” Su suggested.
“It’s because of the lack of understanding of what the Dominion pertains to that I feel most hold this notion, Misty. As for why all can not become Confidants, though a little less certain on that matter, I suspect that creating Confidants is something that can be considered limited, in a sense. Perhaps its simply the toll it takes on the royal family, or perhaps it may have a requirement that needs to be met. Nonetheless, it is an ability best used on those who have already fallen under Asmodeus’ grasp.”
“So you’re saying...you were like that, once upon a time?” The Bard asked.
He nodded grimly.
“I was indeed. It was for that very reason I attacked Queen Remedi. I’m sure you’ve met many Agasura in your journey that you could neither reason, let alone speak with. Those that you can are very far and few between, and at times even if you can, their nature is undeniable. Given that Naomi willingly undertook that risk and still kept her sense of self entirely intact following the occurrence, I imagine that it truly is different from Lord Asmodeus’ Dominion.”
“I dunno about this Dad...I don’t think you should risk that.” Misty said, looking put-out.
He smiled sombrely at her worried face.
“Even I’m not entirely certain about it, Jared,” TJ said. “To be honest, Naomi sucked my blood and gained strength from it. But there was a point where she was channelling energy from me, so maybe that was her utilizing my Dominion. You guys don’t need blood or anything to use your abilities, right? So it’d have to be something like the second option.”
He nodded at TJ’s suggestion once more.
“Exactly. You may think of your Dominion as a pond surrounded by ocean. Though one may not want for water, each source of it carries its own banes and boons. For us, what it offers may be greater power or enhanced abilities. However, we run the risk of falling under the control of they who offer it. In Lord Asmodeus’ case, we may lose ourselves and attack Humans and Asgardians without provocation. He can enforce his will upon all under his Dominion and in turn for those accepting that power he also gains strength. I imagine that should you gain allies under your banner, your strength will increase, and you too may potentially gain such an ability.”
“But...I don’t want to control you guys.”
Upon hearing that, he smiled.
“I have no doubts on the matter, young Agasura King. It is a possibility, but a choice you must make as you amass power. Your desire to avoid bloodshed struck a chord within me, and given that is your wish, you may be able to use such an ability for good. Just as Lord Asmodeus can control Agasura within his Dominion, he can to some degree those without. You may be able to do the same, should you amass greater strength.”
He paused and took a breath.
“It is to that end I wish to take this adventure with you. If my kin should be suspicious of you and your intentions, then I shall be the first to take up your banner. I will show them that your words and actions are true to the cause you champion, and that we need not live in fear any longer. By working in conjunction with you, I shall help you to understand to control and utilize your Dominion, and gain greater strength by taking the Selki under your banner. With that, you will grow a step closer to rivalling Lord Asmodeus. In turn my kinsmen will be released from Lord Asmodeus’ control and may borrow your strength to combat our adversaries, should the need arise. Thus, we shall establish a symbiotic relationship.”
TJ listened to the words intently and closed his eyes.
“I see now. If that’s the way of it, then I’m willing to take you up on it, Jared. I can’t promise yet that I wouldn’t misuse that power, but I’ll do my best to prove it to you, and see you through this safely.”
“Then I shall be-”
“Dad,” Misty said.
At her curt interruption, he blinked and turned to her.
“Yes?”
“Let me go, instead. Everyone here needs you. You’re our leader and you’re the one they’ll look to if something should happen. You’re also the one who’s most supportive of Queen Remedi’s cause. Most of the clan trusts her more, but she’s gone now. As an ally to Queen Peorth, but also someone who’s been on the Selki’s side more this whole time, I should be the go-between. If I’m convinced that TJ isn’t fooling us, I think the other members of the clan will follow. I might not have your title, but I am your daughter and to some degree, the others listen to me too. I know I can convince them.”
She looked to TJ, frowning warily.
“But I also wanna see for myself if he is what he says he is.”
At her words, his mouth formed a taut line, his eyes brimming with determination.
“I’ll show you that I’m not your average Agasura King,” he said.
“Be careful okay, Misty?” Choky asked, looking to her.
“I’ll be fine! You saw me fight Queen Peorth didn’t you? Another Vintor can’t even compare!” She answered, hitting her chest with a fist and grinning.
“Yeah! You’re super strong!”
As he watched their brief talk play out, TJ couldn’t help but smile.
It was things like these Peorth fought so hard to protect, and something he better came to understand as his journey progressed. If Misty would join them on their journey, he would have to ensure he saw her safely back to her family. He couldn’t bear to be the catalyst that broke them up.
“I suppose that this outcome is fine too. Perhaps for the best, even. TJ, are these terms acceptable to you?” Jared asked.
He turned to the chieftain and nodded once.
“Yeah, that’s good. I’ll be relying on her as our guide to Xenym and as a fighter tomorrow,” he replied.
“Just you wait and see. I’ll show you what the selki are capable of.” She answered, a determined frown on her face.
He chuckled quietly.
He had already seen what they were capable of first-hand. However, if that was without Asmodeus’ Dominion in effect, he wouldn’t want to see what they could do with it.
“I’m looking forward to it.”
With an approving nod, Jared looked over the table before turning to his youngest.
“If you’ve all finished eating, I will not keep you any longer. Unless you have further questions for me, feel free to retire to a spare room. There’s more than enough for all of you. Choky, would you show our guests to the guest rooms?” Jared asked.
“Okay!” She answered as she hopped out of her chair. “This way, you guys!”
TJ looked to the plates and looked to Jared and before he could ask, the Selki Chieftain smiled at him.
“There’s no need for you to clean. You’re our guests, so please, use this opportunity to get a restful sleep.”
He nodded silently and turned to the rest of the party. In turn Su shrugged and Machina closed her eyes. He followed after Choky as she exited the room and the rest of the party followed suit.
The group walked through the hallways as the young Saelki happily skipped. After turning a corner she stopped at a door against the far wall and slapped it a couple of times with her hand.
“One of you guys can stay in here! The rooms next to it are free too, so the others can sleep there,” she said.
“Got it, thanks!” TJ answered, smiling.
“I don’t need one. I take my eyes off this idiot and he’ll get a spear through the goddamn chest.” Su suggested as she dematerialized and returned to the Heart of Yggdrasil.
At the sight, the Selki took on a shocked stance, her expression conveying as much.
“W-wow! Was that friend a ghost, Mister?!” She cried out, looking excited.
He chuckled sheepishly as he averted his gaze.
“S-something like that...?”
“How about you Ms. Maid?! Can you do that too?!”
She shook her head.
“I cannot,” Machina answered.
“Too bad. Well, I guess we only need two rooms then! You can stay in this one, Ms. Maid!”
She gestured to the next room and Machina shook her head once more.
“I find it crucial that I remain by my Master’s side in case of danger, or should he have need of me.”
“I don’t think I’ll be in any particular danger, though. That aside, what other needs could I have met?” He asked, giving her a puzzled look.
Choky gave her a confused look also.
“Boys and girls can’t have a sleepover, Ms. Maid.”
At the Selki’s words, her eyes opened.
“S-she’s not wrong...” TJ said scratching his cheek. “I’ll be fine, Machina. Nothing’s gonna happen, so you should hang out in that room until it’s time to get up. Unless you wanted to go for a walk or something.”
She closed her eyes and bowed once more.
“As you wish, Master.” The android answered as she approached the room. “I will return to rouse you once the sun has risen, per usual.”
“Appreciate it.”
With another bow she entered the open door and closed it behind her.
“G’night Ms. Maid, TJ!” Choky said as she waved with both hands.
“Sleep tight Choky.”
With a slight wave, he opened the door and entered the room.
It was a simple set, featuring a bed with a couple of nightables surrounding it. There was a desk and chair, a small table with a flowerpot on it and a closet. A window with a sky blue transparent curtain billowed at the far side of the room. A long dresser sat next to a door, and beside the window a tall standing mirror invited him to look into it. The bed, though made of ice had what seemed to be a blanket made of fur atop it, atop what seemed to be a bed cover.
Remembering that he recently used Avaritia’s power again and exerted himself, he decided to take a look in the mirror. After taking a few cautious steps over, he glimpsed his reflection in the mirror and removed his hat. As the pink locks fell in his face once more, he saw several streaks of gold running throughout all of his hair. The amount had increased substantially, and thus it looked as if he had highlighted it. As was the case with the previous Sinners, the effects of Invidia’s integration remained. A single ring rested within his iris, that definitely wasn’t there prior.
Suddenly, the Heart of Yggdrasil lit up and Su emerged from it before rushing him against the wall. She slammed both hands on each side of him as she nearly pressed her face against his.
“What the hell was that?” She asked, her expression enraged.
“W-what was what?!” He asked in turn.
“That stupid question of yours earlier! Since when did you of all people have any interest in treasure?”
“I-isn’t it fine?! I mean, it could be useful, right? The stuff we got before fighting Rayinth was a big help!”
“Most of it you couldn’t even make use of! And even then, you weren’t that gung-ho about it!”
She pressed her forehead against his, her brow creasing further.
“Now you listen to me, Candy Ass. You need to quit relying on that stupid power the Sinners cursed you with already. You keep using it, you’re not just gonna sound and act like them, you’ll become them. Didn’t that shitty barista warn you about this?”
“K-kinda?”
A bead of sweat rolled down his cheek as he raised his arms in a gesture of surrender.
Vanir had suggested using the sins in his spellcasting would have such an effect. Or at least, it would for most Agasura. ...Which meant he could increase the blood bond by invoking them also.
“Well for once, you should’ve listened to him! We got lucky so far. But this is just one of seven of these accursed powers! I’d rather not see what the hell you become if you keep at it like that.”
She pulled away and sighed, shaking her head.
“I’m watching you, Candy Ass. Don’t be an idiot in battle and you won’t need those.”
He lowered his head, eyes upturned.
“I’ll be more careful.”
“Better.”
At those words, she dissipated and returned to the Heart of Yggdrasil.
Stealing one last glance at his reflection in the mirror, he decided to lay on the bed.
It was rather hard, but the cover and the blanket made it a lot more comfortable than one would suspect.
He blinked a couple of times as he closed his eyes to ruminate on Su and Vanir’s words.
It was true that using those powers especially incurred a cost. However, his powers were ones that would allow him to crush his foes, but very rarely disarm them. At the very least, those he could recall. Just as Avaritia had a love for Luxuria and to some degree, refrained from hurting her severely, he could do the same. He couldn’t deny the intention, given the circumstances but if it could’ve been avoided, she too would choose that path. If he became more like her, couldn’t he be the same? Or would he be no different than an Agasura under Asmodeus’ Dominion, should he allow those powers to take root? It certainly was an uncertain path.
He opened his eyes once more and raised a hand skyward before clenching a fist.
They were incredibly close to Xenym. In order to restore it, the first step they would need to take is to defeat Vintor. Thankfully, they had someone who had fought another version of it. However, such a thing was a first for all of them. For a Guardian to manifest outside of its Instance was definitely an unusual occurrence. Though it may have been the first time, it might not have been the last time something of the sort would happen. He would consider the following encounter into the future and let it guide him forward.
His body turned over and he closed his eyes as sleep began to take him.
Tomorrow, his journey would begin anew. For today, he would rest.

Re: [solved]Sanctuary
- Misty Joined the Party!:
- Why do I write? So a cute book girl will eat my novel, obviously! But they don't exist. Not yet, at least! Cryofreeze me Cap'n!
So? Let's get down to it!
Picking up where we left off god knows when, post-0battle shenanigans! Short battle really, but it could've ended with a lot more violence and bloodshed. A staple for this series, really. And with that, we get (re)introduced to misty, with the appearance of the typical Selki, as I said before. Just in case, it's based exactly on the in-game design. Don't ask me why they have paws, I dunno, but that's how it was and that's how it'll be. The reason I describe her here, is 'cause the me of the past, me from...like, 10 years ago I think? Didn't do it! It's within expectations, really! But anyway, we get these two introduced, finally. A lot of it is just following up on some of the things TJ learned earlier. As I suggested earlier, readers might be aware of all of this stuff but it can serve as a good refresher at times, and just kinda serves to help him connect the dots. Quite a lot happens throughout the story, so details can get mixed. If it was to happen, it could be a good character moment, depending on how the cast handles it. Little imperfections and mistakes like that could make the character more rounded. Also I was working on this yesterday and I was looking for the part where they mentioned visiting Terramane! I thought I imagined writing that part!
In truth, it was nice to have a character who could understand TJ's situation a bit. Most won't, because they're probably human and don't...well, y'know. In all fairness, Confidants are far and few between in this novel. Peorth needs to get on that lol. Will she? Read on to find out! Not this blog. Maybe this blog. I might accidentally spoil the answer or something, I dunno. But anyway! The maiming and mending! This Bard has both in spades! Some people like that, don't judge. So while that happens, Misty goes to get Jared. I'd thought about having Elga make an apperance to better illustrate the point of her...well, clicking her tongue, but I didn't. It's one of those things where if I took the time to design her and put her in there somewhere, you'd think I have a reason for it. It's worrying actually! If you get really good mob characters, or even if they just have good designs, readers will pick up on that! It'll become a running gag! I'm not competent enough to prevent that from spiralling lol. That aside, I think TJ's description of Machina can be applied to like 80% of the girls in this novel. He probably would, too.
It's a brief moment in the grand scheme of things, but I like this dialogue between TJ and Su. The former's reluctance to take the lives of his enemies has always been a sticking point, and it is something I discussed before. From what I've seen, at times, readers won't like that aspect. The way I see it though, if the hero becomes willing to do it once, why wouldn't he do it again? Why stop at 2? If you've already killed a couple, just do it a few more times. Then it becomes commonplace. Your hero stops being a hero, eventually. I suppose you could see it as a degradation of their morals. With powers like TJ's, it'd be certainly easy to do, even accidentally. But I think the most important part behind that is the intent. At the same time, I think that's what makes the contrast between TJ and Su so important, and also lends itself well to the comparison I made between her and Peorth. In the case I mentioned here, it'd be more of a black and white scenario, as the lives begin to matter less and the hero would be killing indiscriminately because...well, they wouldn't matter. It's a simple trapping, really. As you read on, I want you to consider how things might've been different if they chose to fight on, rather, with the intent to fell their enemies. What if, they successfully eradicated the Selki as a whole? Just something to chew on, methinks.
Moving on, Jared! He's back! Of course he is lol. We get a bit of answers here, why they attacked, why they're getting attacked, etc. Also the Selki village has a name now, it's Eferet! It really needed one, 'cause...y'know, calling it a Selki village is sad. The bad kind. Especially when it's a Selki doing it. Wanna hear me say Selki again? It's gonna happen a lot over the course of this update. Also TJ really isn't about the titles lol. I mean, if people kept calling me {Omen of Ill Fortune} violence would ensue sooner rather than later. That's some ill fortune right there, rightfully deserved though.
So, original story stuff time! Of course, the tundra doesn't exist in LT. The Snowfields are as far as that region go, so all of the Agasura are located there. In the case of the novel, I wouldn't say it's completely devoid of Agasura, but that far out, you likely wouldn't find many, if any at all. Save the Selki of course. There would be other creatures, your average beasts that prowl the lands but less so on the Agasura front. In this case, there are some from the Snowfields but most hail from the Frozen Labyrinth. Given that they're not particularly bound to a region, they might move more freely in spite of the Iris Stones. However, as mentioned prior, the Minotauros are considered boss rank monsters, the same as the Selki. There's a reason Misty and Choky move freely about the world! Thus, it raises two possibilities: the first being that Indun monsters can't be held back by the Iris Stones. The second is that they can move if one of the Indun's boss mons are present. Of course, with Jared too and as he says much of what he suspects is speculation. Nobody knows exactly how it works, but they're in the thick of it so they're taking shots in the dark. Mentioned before, but yeah it applies here too.
I do like the moment where TJ reflects on where his journey's taken him. It feels a bit odd looking back, at all the things he couldn't do starting out. A lot of it was just hitting things with his guitar until the CoI arc. I can't say I don't worry about it, but I'm still working at making sure the progression of his journey aligns itself well with him gaining and mastering his powers. Those two things also accompany the conflicts of the power he gains, and how. He's come a long way with a lot more to go, so hopefully it's been done well thus far, and will continue to be. There's greater things to come, with even greater hurdles to making them work. I do have some plans in the works, though, so expect more training arcs lol. The dancing one was surprisingly short, though! Felt long writing it...
Don't look now, we're getting info on Queen Remedi! Finally! There was a bit here and there in the side story, but just small details from Peorth's perspective. Also I joked about it all being chance, the events taking place, but it really was. Queen Remedi could've been the one who started things off and the story would've followed her. In this case? It should've been Freya's story. Imagine that! I do think about TJ's hesitation on asking about her, but it fits. Getting the objective view is obviously ideal but...I feel that'd apply more to someone you'd look at from a business perspective. ...Maybe. It's an odd thing because...the more you know about someone, really know about them, your perspective is wont to differ. In some cases, not knowing is better because you might have reservations regarding certain things. Things you can't compromise on. It's...something I've thought a lot about, and not something I like to. If we all considered that, the world would be a kinder place, wouldn't it? But something like that can't quite come to be. Realistically speaking, of course.
But anyway, Jared's got a 20/20 hindsight, unironically 'cause he remembers exactly what she said. In truth, I was a little reluctant to have her show her playful side because in most cases, that was reserved for when she wasn't doing her queen-like duties. But in a sense, Jared could be considered a friend to her, as Verun and Marin are also. Considering their relationship with Vanir...is it possible she foresaw what was to come? I confess, I do love characters like her. There are a few in the novel currently, but I feel like she holds it together better well. Kooh hides her murderous impulses and Alessa is actually secretly a crybaby. Not so secretly, really, if you read any of the side stories. In Remedi's case, she's a brilliant queen, but a lot of the time, it comes off as her messing around. She brought incredible sweeping changes the world over, but she had the castle staff in a tizzy trying to keep up with her. We also get hard confirmation that she was an incredible God's Governor. Prior to that, all we knew was that she won the first war for them with her sacrifice, so it's a bigger loss than one might think. Given all of that, and Freya's death but incredible aptitude for magic, it's turtles all the way down! Mm, I love turtles.
I could probably do a better description of Eferet, but will I? Unlikely! It's really not that important! I did do a bit though, but there's not really much to see. Whole lotta stuff ain't gonna grow out there because it's cold year round! Also all of it is made of ice! I mean, the best you're gonna get is a kid with his tongue stuck to a pole. Do you know how many nightmares I had hearing you'd need to get your tongue cut off if you did that? Not that I would but...yeesh. Anyway, Su takes no nonsense from Jared either, despite him bringing none to the table lol. As you'd expect, Misty isn't having any of that either, so they're likely to butt heads quite a bit. Odd as it may sound, Jared's a bit of a breath of fresh air since he doesn't...y'know, pick a fight. A lot of the time, there's a lot of infighting lol. If Yggdrasil members are involved it'll be typical party banter, though.
So about Vintor, there's a reason it's there but I can't say yet without spoiling upcoming stuff, so you'll have to just take what you see and make a wild guess. But there is a reason! I've considered it! 'Til then though, we get reintroduced to Choky and get a series of introductions from the party. Just in case, no the clothes do not come with paws.
Moving on, a description of Vintor, courtesy of Choky! It's pretty spot-on if I do say so myself.
Now, the real crux of the scenario, at least regarding the Selki. I guess starting out, let's cover the part about Naomi first. For the record, she wasn't under TJ's Dominion during the last dungeon. You can typically tell the effect of it because the Agasura undergo multiple changes, becoming tougher, stronger and with new abilities. Naomi didn't gain any by sucking his blood, but she did get buffs to her current list of specialties. She was definitely stronger, maybe faster, and her spells were more potent. But that's all! Thus! It's just a Vampanelar thing, really. When you get blood from the Agasura King it goes a long way. TJ doesn't know that, though, which is why he ruminates on the fact throughout the scene.
Now, about the Dominion, most Agasura likely can't resist it. Most wouldn't really, since they're nothing like the Selki. The effect tends to cover the region, so everything but the Selki, as you've seen, are under the effect of it. Had they been, they might not have been thoroughly trounced so easily. Anyway, originally this wasn't something I had planned for, but I liked the idea of TJ attempting to amass an army of his own, in a sense. It won't...entirely be like that, because it'd be a very different novel if so, but for him to gain some more power by recruiting others under his banner lends itself well to his character development. It's a bit more complicated than that, but I can't say too much on it. Though him having to earn the trust of the Selki is a nice touch. Originally they were gonna have a much smaller part to play in the grand scheme of things, but this lends itself better to potential future developments.
Now, this part I was a little conflicted on, but it was a follow-up to what had happened before. That is, the effect of using the sin more often. I love that it's just Su who becomes suspicious of him because she was the first one to catch on during the 5th District expedition. The whole scenario ends in a bit of a joke, but I'm glad I followed up on TJ's previous experiences and notions with it. As for the artifact, yes! There's one! Finally. After god knows how long. Jared did mention that he fell in love with a Human during the Prologue, so we get a bit more detail about that. That, and it lends itself well to the overarching plot! Consider it!
Next, Jared's request. I do like the contrast of what becoming a Confidant and taking up the Dominion provides. It feels very in line with the nature of the two. At the same time, it lends itself well to the two who hold that power, and their goals and wishes. TJ's wishes are in stark contrast to how Asmodeus does things, but that conflict is tasty! I rather like it! I do confess, I like the idea that TJ could command the Agasura if he was to get more under his Dominion. In a sense, it's in stark contrast to his goal, but also helps him to accomplish it. He wants to change the fate of all, but to do so he has to become something akin to his enemy, or something even greater to surpass him and supplant the seat of God Ah's Right Hand. We did get a bit of a glimpse of his inner turmoil regarding the sacrifices, but I think this is a different source of angst I can expand upon later. In other words, more pain and suffering to come! The heart and soul of my novel!
It doesn't really seem like it, but this is TJ learning a new ability...kinda. Putting aside regular spell usage, gaining overarching skills like dancing, Dominion stuff, Summoning, etc. Something that has more...out of combat use, I guess? You know what I mean. Like an umbrella skill, in a sense. The uses might be niche and far and few between, but I'm hoping his character and abilities can be expanded upon through that, and that it lends itself well to what we know he can do. To some degree, you can see some of that through the conversation they're having here. We're already on the right track!
Anyway, given their discussion Misty interjects and joins the party instead. It'd be nice to see Jared fighting, but this isn't that kind of novel lol. He can though! Just need to use your imagination on that front lol. Maybe you'll see it in 10 years time. I mean, if it took me that long to get here, it's turtles all the way down for the latter half because there's so much more. Content, I mean, not chapters. It's all packed into a set amount of chapters. I did say we're almost at the halfway point, and so...yes, you know! The numbers, Mason, they mean something!
Lastly for this! Bedtime shenanigans! Not the fun sexy kind this time either! There's a bit of fun prior to the rest, though. There are jokes about that, though. Indirect ones, but they're there. I really like Choky's matter-of-fact statement lol. Simple, yet effective! She's not wrong, that little girl! But if only she knew! There's no particular reason she doesn't call Machina by name, but I kinda prefer it this way.
Anyway, TJ in his room. He didn't look in a mirror much until now, but we get confirmation of the changes from both of his sisters. The rings will increase the more he uses that power! I just need a reason for him to use it more...when and how, will be tricky. But I'll find a way. Which means new spells! On that note, he gets kabe-downed by Su. Need the narrator to make the sound for that part lol. Jokes aside, she interrogates him because what better way to get answers? Su's a bit off the mark on her suggestion, but TJ's traits will lean more towards them the more he does it, as you've seen here. I need to work that more into his dialogues where I can. It'll feel jarring to read, but just keep this in mind if it does happen, as I will need to also. As for what Vanir said regarding that...I wonder if invoking the Sins should also increase the blood bond in the same way. I imagine it'd be different for others, but for TJ the two are likely connected. In that way, I can rely less on him having to use the Sins for the effect to happen and do it if he uses certain Sins enough when casting.
We get a bit of self-reflection from TJ as he gets ready to sleep here. After all's said and done, he's still true to his ideals. Whether he can accomplish them is another matter in and of itself, but he's still willing to try. Given that, if he was to go astray from that somewhat as the story progresses, there would be room for an interesting conflict there. But I think the only way it would work is if Su was the one to step up and set him straight. Considering the trajectory of her character, I'm hard-pressed to say it'd work out like that. He kind fills that role in their relationship, so maybe not. We'll see. A role reversal could be good too! Something (for me)to chew on.
But anyway, that's all for this update! I know, it's been a while. I've been lifing and I don't quite like it, but it needs to be done. Did anything of note happen in the down time? Noooooooooot really...mostly work. When isn't it? I've got a bit more time now, which is why I'm here, doing this! Every bane has it's boons though, so I can't suggest getting used to seeing me! Not that I have much to post as far as this goes, but the chapter is nearing completion. I've been diligently working at it this week. Might've today too, but figured I may as well do this, so here I am.
Random rapid fire updates go! As far as GBF goes, I'm suuuuuuuuuuper behind. While everyone is rounding up their schrodingers and getting like the tooth of Super Ultimate Bahamut and the head of Walfrid the Blue Knight I'm sitting with my grids from like 2 years ago. It's bad. GW is hard and it's only getting harder. Life's hard, bro. Someday I might do something about that, but boy, it's hard to tell what weapons I need these days and whether I have the weapons I need to get said weapons. It's probably doable...maybe. Though I'm understating how behind I am.
That whole thing with the kitten? It was temporary. Long story I won't tell the details of because of how convoluted it was. Just in case, no I didn't have two cats. You probably guessed it after last year, but...yeah, no. Nothing makes you realize how ephemeral life is like grabbing a shovel and digging your buddy's grave. I did say death gets his due, and boy did he ever.
Other than that? Playing GBVSR. I realized that playing fighting games is hard. Again. I feel like a fawn learning to walk all over again. My inner sore loser wants to get good, but boy, I really gotta put in the time to do it. But I also have to do this! I haven't even started farming PG in GBF! I'm supposed to do it today, yet here I am! I'm still typing this for some inexplicable reason when I should be doing that! It's all spiralling out of control. It's super over.
With that said, I'm gonna eat and then dive right into that, so, yes! Goodbye! We will meet again, hopefully under more auspicious(heh) circumstances! Until next time!
